floral art Michigan State University's 10th annual Twilight in the Garden fundraiser hosted by the Friends of Kresge took place Sept. 20, 2009. The Friends of Kresge began in 1976 as a membership and support group for the universitys art museum. This year, the event put them over the top of their $1 million goal to help fund the new Eli And Edythe Broad Art Museum which is expected to break ground next spring and open in 2012. Watch »

The camp, which took place at the Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden at Michigan State University, is a three-day workshop where children are inspired by their surroundings in the garden. June 2009. Watch »

Beal Garden Spring is blooming in MSU’s W. J. Beal Botanical Garden. The garden, established in 1873 by Professor William James Beal, is the oldest continuously operated university botanical garden of its kind in the United States and operates as an outdoor laboratory for the study of plants. MSU is also home to the Horticultural Demonstration Gardens and the Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden. Watch >>

Students, faculty and staff members were encouraged to dim down their lights and electronics from noon to 1 p.m. as a way to raise awareness about global climate change. Magic Johnson stands by his statue

Earvin “Magic” Johnson recently returned to MSU’s campus for a reunion celebration of the 1979 NCAA basketball champion Spartans. Magic visited with media while he was here. Here are highlights from Magic’s press conference. He talks about what advice he gives the 2009 Spartans and says he stays very close to Tom Izzo and the Spartan program. He does an impersonation of his coach, Jud Heathcote, too.

Michigan State University’s emergency-response experts will train firefighters from across the state on how to free people who are trapped in machinery – a problem that has led to more than 100 deaths and untold injuries in the past five years. The training, funded by a grant from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, began Jan. 20 at Ford Motor Co.’s idled Wixom Assembly Plant in suburban Detroit. It’s based on a similar program MSU developed for Ford. Watch »

Kresge Art Museum

Kresge Art Museum's 50th anniversary is kicking off the new year with an exhibit featuring 130 art pieces, including some that are rarely on display. Director Susan Bandes reflected on the museum's collection history while standing next to its newest acquisition - a Hudson River School painting from the mid-19th-century.

Refugee mural Students in MSU's Residential College in the Arts and Humanities worked with local refugee children to create a mural answering the question "What Does Community or Home Mean?"
