EAST LANSING, Mich. — With more than $1.5 million in federal stimulus funding grants already awarded, Michigan State University is helping lead economic recovery as it spurs innovation, creates jobs and furthers research addressing some of society’s most pressing challenges.

As part of the federal government’s nearly $800 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, more than $15 billion is being awarded to research institutions nationwide by a variety of federal funding agencies. Complete information about MSU’s stimulus funding is available on a new Web site at stimulusfunding.msu.edu.

“Michigan State University is among the world’s premier research institutions, driving advances in areas from health and life sciences to physics and animal science,” President Lou Anna K. Simon said. “MSU’s researchers are on the leading edge in creating viable solutions that will positively affect both local and global communities.”

MSU has submitted nearly 200 grant proposals that will be considered over the coming months. The stimulus funding, which must be used within two years, will provide increases in federal support across many academic disciplines.

The Web site will include the latest news on stimulus funding awarded to MSU researchers, as well as a roundup of all stimulus projects, including the focus of the research and how the money is being used. News releases, profiles and multimedia also will be featured.
