EAST LANSING, Mich. — MSU's Olin Student Health Center has received a limited quantity of H1N1 vaccine for MSU and MSU College of Law students who are at high risk.

Students who are eligible for the vaccine will need to complete an online request form; those who simply go to Olin for a dose will be turned away. Pregnant women and students with the following high-risk conditions are eligible at this time:

  • Cancer;
  • Blood disorders (sickle cell disease, hemophilia, spleenectomy);
  • Chronic pulmonary disease (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sarcoidosis, lung transplant, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis);
  • Diabetes;
  • Heart disease, except high blood pressure (heart transplant, mitral valve prolapse, valve replacement, rheumatic fever, endocarditis, pulmonary heart disease);
  • Kidney disorders (renal transplant, dialysis);
  • Liver disorders (liver transplant, hepatitis, cirrhosis);
  • Neurological and neuromuscular disorders (brain tumor, lupus, Lou Gehrig's disease, myasthenia gravis, arthritis, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis);
  • Weakened immune systems (HIV/AIDS, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, anorexia, bulimia, Crohn's);
  • Morbid obesity (body mass index greater than 40).

Students who believe they fit within the high risk groups and already are Olin patients should complete the online H1N1 Vaccine Request Form. A nurse then will contact you within two business days to schedule your appointment.

Students who fit within the high-risk groups and are not an Olin patient need to complete the online H1N1 Vaccine Request Form and also must provide documentation from their medical provider confirming pregnancy or a high risk medical condition. Documentation can be brought to Olin's medical records department or faxed at (517) 432-9460. After the medical documentation is received, a nurse will contact you within two business days to schedule your H1N1 vaccine

Once more vaccine is available on campus, the initial target groups will be expanded to include all students up to 24 years old, and vaccine clinics will be scheduled.

Additional information on Olin's vaccine program can be found at http://olin.msu.edu/fluvaccine.php. More information also is available on the MSU H1N1 Web site.
